Heart Chakra Meditation (+ Guided Video)

Heart Chakra Meditation (+ Guided Video)

Heart Chakra meditation is a beautiful healing practice which can support your physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

In this guide we cover the benefits of meditation and provide a guided Heart Chakra meditation and video which you can follow along at home – perfect for meditation experts and beginners!

What Is the Heart Chakra?

The Heart Chakra, known as Anahata in Sanskrit, is the Fourth Chakra of the seven primary chakras. It’s located in your chest next to your physical heart.

The Heart Chakra is associated with love, compassion and emotional growth.

It plays a particularly important role in the chakra system as it is the bridge between the lower chakras which connect us to the material world (Root Chakra, Sacral Chakra and Solar Plexus Chakra) and the upper chakras connected to the spiritual world (Throat Chakra, Third Eye Chakra and Crown Chakra).

The Heart Chakra is represented by the color green, representing regeneration and growth (think about mother nature!). It is connected to the element air which reminds us that the Heart Chakra is essential for our wellbeing and its loving energy is all around us.

When your Heart Chakra is open and balanced, you feel deeply connected to others, empathetic, and loving towards both yourself and the world around you. You practice forgiveness both for yourself and others and this helps you to build rewarding and healthy relationships.

However when you have an overactive Heart Chakra you can experience physical and emotional issues, such as:

  • Feeling disconnected and closed off
  • Lack of empathy and understanding
  • Overwhelmed with empathy
  • Manipulative behaviors
  • Unable to let go of past mistakes and grudges
  • Physical issues such as poor blood circulations and heart issues

Discover the physical and mental signs of a blocked Heart chakra and what can happen when your spiritual heart center opens.

When you practice Heart Chakra meditation regularly, you can enjoy all kinds of physical and emotional effects, including:

Physical Benefits

  • Lowered blood pressure: Regular Heart Chakra meditation could aid in reducing your blood pressure, contributing to overall heart health.
  • Stress reduction: By focusing on the Heart Chakra, you may find a gradual slowing of your heart rate, which is beneficial for stress relief and calmness.

Emotional Benefits

  • Emotional Healing: Heart Chakra meditation helps you connect with your emotions, and build self awareness. This understanding helps us to overcome emotional blockages and grow emotionally.
  • Increased Empathy: Regularly meditation helps you to become more attuned to the needs and feelings of others, as well as yourself, so you become more empathetic and compassionate.
  • Emotional Balance: Regular Anahata meditation helps you to achieve greater emotional balance and serenity. With greater perspective on your feelings you can avoid getting wrapped up in them and giving in to emotional outbursts
  • Self-love and Acceptance: Focusing on your heart space with meditation helps you to build greater self-love and acceptance. This helps you to forgive yourself for past mistakes and grow as a person.
  • Rewarding Relationships: By bringing compassion, forgiveness and self-awareness to your relationships you will be able to build more rewarding and healthy connections with others.

How to Do Heart Chakra Meditation

Heart Chakra meditation is a form of meditation which is focused on helping you connect with your Fourth Chakra, release emotional blockages and bring harmony to this vital energy center.

Start with a few minutes and gradually increase the time as you feel comfortable.

You can start practicing Heart Chakra meditation using this simple routine:

  1. Find a quiet room where you won’t be disturbed.
  2. Get in a comfortable position – you can either sit comfortably on a chair or on a cushion on the floor. Just make sure that your back is straight.
  3. Inhale deeply, slowly filling the lungs, then exhale gently. Do this a few times until you feel your body relax and release any tension.
  4. Now, bring your awareness to your heart center, in the center of your chest. Visualize a radiant green light glowing brightly at this center, the light of your Heart Chakra.
  5. Feel its warmth and gentle energy expanding with each breath you take. As you continue to breathe, allow this light of compassion to grow stronger and more vibrant, filling your entire chest cavity with its healing energy.
  6. With each inhale, imagine drawing in love, compassion, and kindness from the universe, allowing these positive energies to nourish and replenish your Heart Chakra.
  7. With each exhale, release any feelings of resentment, anger, or pain that may be weighing heavy on your heart. Allow yourself to be fully present in this moment, embracing the beauty and radiance of your light love energy.
  8. As you continue to breathe deeply, affirm to yourself: “My heart is open and receptive to love. I am worthy of giving and receiving love unconditionally.”
  9. Take a few moments to bask in the warmth and radiance of your Heart Chakra, feeling grateful for the love and abundance that surrounds you. Allow yourself to be filled with a sense of deep gratitude and appreciation for the gift of life and all its blessings.
  10. When you feel ready, gently bring your awareness back to your physical body. Wiggle your fingers and toes, slowly reawakening your senses. Take a final deep breath, and when you’re ready, gently open your eyes.

Regular practice is key to experiencing the benefits of Heart Chakra meditation. Go at your own pace and be patient with your progress.

Tools to Support Your Heart Chakra Meditation

There are lots of different tools and techniques you can use during your meditation practice to enhance the effectiveness of your Heart Chakra healing. My favorite tools are:

Heart Chakra Crystals

Certain Heart Chakra Crystals have vibrational frequencies and properties that are particularly good for balancing the Anahata. Look for crystals such as rose quartz and green adventurine which promote emotional balance and inner peace.

You can place these crystals on or around your body during meditation to increase your focus and support Heart Chakra healing.

Heart Chakra Essential Oils

Essential oils are a great way to boost your mood and create a serene environment to support your practice. Oils such as rose and jasmine are particularly effective for calming the mind and supporting your heart energy.

You can apply oils to pulse points, or fill the room with aroma by adding some oil to a diffuser or oil burner.

Heart Chakra Affirmations

Heart Chakra affirmations are a powerful way to focus your mind so you get the most out of your meditation practice. Positive affirmations have even been shown to reprogramme thought patterns!

Try these Heart Chakra affirmations:

  • I openly give and receive love.
  • I forgive myself and others, releasing any past hurts or grievances.
  • I am at peace with myself and the world around me.

Sound Healing

Each chakra has a particularly vibrational frequency, for the Heart Chakra it is 639 Hz. Using instruments tuned to the Heart Chakra frequency such as singing bowls, tuning forks, chimes and bells we can revitalize the energetic frequency.

One simple way to incorporate sound healing into your meditation practice is to play chakra healing music. Put a track on softly in the background to create the perfect atmosphere for heart healing.

Heart Chakra Mantras

Chakra mantras can help us to build a deeper connection with our chakras. Each chakra has a specific mantra (or seed sound) and for the Heart Chakra is YAM.

Say this mantra at the beginning of your practice to create powerful vibrations which will rebalance and activate your Fourth Chakra.

Heart Chakra Mudras

Mudras are sacred hand positions which can direct healing life force energy to different parts of the human body and boost your emotional state.

One simple Heart Chakra mudra which you can practice during meditation is Anjai mudra. This position opens up the heart space and welcomes gratitude and empathy. To practice Anjai mudra, simply bring your hands together in front of your heart space.

Another powerful hand gesture is Prana Mudra which can support emotional balance. To practice Prana Mudra, simply bring the tips of your thumb, ring finger and little finger together, while keeping your index and middle fingers straight.

Chakra Meditation Apps

If you’re new to meditating then a chakra meditation app can be a great way to get started in your practice.

Meditation apps such as Insight Timer and Aura have chakra specific meditation tracks which will guide you through your session and build your confidence.

Heart Chakra meditation is a powerful way to balance your heart center and support your emotional and spiritual health in your daily life.
