Having a blocked Crown Chakra can cause you to lose your sense of self, become co-dependent on others, suffer from stress and anxiety, or be in a state of depression.

This chakra represents our connection with the Spirit. The Crown Chakra symbol is a thousand petalled lotus flower. It’s many petals represent all five elements: earth, body, fire, air, and water. When open, it will bring you peace as well as healing and renewal.

Opening the 7th chakra can be a challenge for many people, but luckily there are lots of different chakra healing techniques you can try. In this article we look at how you can use essential oils, yoga poses, affirmations and meditation to help balance your Crown Chakra.

What is the Crown Chakra?

The Crown Chakra or Sahasrara is the seventh chakra and is the highest in the human energy field. It is the channel through which we receive insights from the spirit world in the form of inspiration or telepathy. It’s a very important chakra because it is responsible for higher consciousness and spiritual purpose.

There are 7 major chakras in the human body, each with its own specific purpose:

  1. Root Chakra (Muladhara Chakra): responsible for grounding and stability.
  2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana Chakra): responsible for emotions and creativity.
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura Chakra): responsible for personal power and identity.
  4. Heart Chakra (Anahata Chakra): responsible for love and relationships.
  5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha Chakra): responsible for our ability to speak and communicate our truth freely.
  6. Third-Eye Chakra (Ajna Chakra): responsible for inner wisdom and intuition.
  7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara Chakra): responsible for our connection to the Divine.

Where is the Crown Chakra Located?

The Crown Chakra is located at the top of the head (in other words the crown of the head) and acts as the connection between us and something greater than ourselves.

Benefits of an Open Crown Chakra

Have you ever experienced a feeling of lightness or joyfulness in your heart when someone is kind and generous to you? Those are undeniable signs of an open Crown Chakra.

When the Sahasrara is in balance, you feel connected to your higher self and the divine source of all creation. You experience a sense of oneness with all that is, and you know that you are infinitely loved and supported. You are open to receiving guidance and insight from the universe.

An open Crown Chakra helps you understand your own spiritual energy as well as how you interact with others in the world around you.

An open Crown Chakra can bring a number of benefits, including:

  • A sense of connection to the Universal or Divine
  • A feeling of being deeply connected to your own intuition and inner wisdom
  • A sense of peace, calm, and bliss

Other benefits of an open Crown Chakra include improved mental health, increased creativity, and a feeling of love in your life.

What are the Symptoms of the Crown Chakra Opening?

There can be physical, mental, or emotional symptoms with a Crown Chakra opening. Some people may experience all of them, while others might only experience one or two symptoms:

Physical symptoms:

  • Pressure in the head
  • Tingling or prickling sensations on the scalp
  • Headaches or migraines

Mental symptoms:

  • Increased sensory awareness
  • A feeling of connection to the divine or universal consciousness
  • Feeling united with everything around you

Emotional symptoms

  • Feelings of bliss, ecstasy, and joy

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, your Crown Chakra may be opening. However, it is also important to note that not everyone will experience all of the symptoms.

Signs of a Blocked Crown Chakra

Crown Chakra blockages are increasingly common due to the stress and hectic nature of modern life. It’s very common to feel trapped or overwhelmed, or even to feel like you have no purpose or a clear future ahead of you.

If you’re feeling disconnected from your spirituality, it may be a sign that your Crown Chakra is blocked. Other symptoms include:

  • Poor coordination
  • Feeling lost or confused
  • Feeling disconnected from others
  • Feeling like you’re not good enough
  • Feeling like you don’t belong
  • Feeling like you’re not worthy of love or respect
  • Feeling like life is meaningless

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, exploring ways to open up your Crown Chakra can be really beneficial.

How Do I Unblock the Crown Chakra?

Unblocking your Crown Chakra can help you achieve a more fulfilling life. It opens you up to inspiration in all its forms, allowing you to recognize opportunities for growth, love, and fulfillment.

While it’s not something you can achieve overnight, there are plenty of different Crown Chakra healing techniques that you can try.

Here are a few ways that you can begin unblocking your Crown Chakra today:

Crown Chakra Affirmations

If the Sahasrara is out of balance, we can feel disconnected from our spiritual selves and the world around us. You may feel lost, confused, or alone. You may have trouble trusting your intuition or accessing your higher wisdom.

Positive affirmations and mantras can be a great way to challenge these negative feelings and rebalance the Crown Chakra. These kinds of Crown Chakra affirmations can work well:

  • I give up the need to control my life and surrender to a higher power.
  • I welcome spiritual guidance from a higher power.
  • The light and divine energy of the Universe flows through me.

Using present tense affirmations which are focused on your mindset can help you cultivate positive thought patterns which remove negative energies and rebalance your chakras.

You can use affirmations as part of a morning journaling practice, or you could combine them with a yoga practice. Some people like to say an affirmation when they first wake up or before they go to sleep – test them out at a few different times and see what works for you.

Crown Chakra Mudras

Mudras, or hand gestures, can also be used to help balance the Crown Chakra, as they are thought to calm the mind and channel positive energies through our being. Here are a few to try:

  • Gyan Mudra: This mudra is often used in meditation and helps to promote concentration and wisdom. To do this mudra, bring the tips of your thumb and index finger together.
  • Shuni Mudra: This mudra helps to calm the mind and ease stress and anxiety. To do this mudra, bring the tip of your middle finger to the base of your thumb.
  • Ekadashi Mudra: This mudra helps to improve memory and mental clarity. To do this mudra, simply bring the tips of your ring finger and little finger to the base of your thumb.

Crown Chakra Crystals

Crown chakra stones and crystals emit healing vibrations which can be a powerful addition to your healing practices.

Different types of crystals have different vibrational frequencies and properties so it is best to use a crystal or stone which is specifically suited to the chakra you want to work on.

Chakra stones which are known to support the Crown Chakra include:

Amethyst is a powerful purple crystal that is known for its ability to promote calmness and peace. It can help to still the mind and ease anxiety. Amethyst is also said to help promote sleep and improve sleep quality.

Moonstone is said to be calming yet grounding. It can help you to open up your Crown Chakra and unblock it in a very natural way. If the energy inside you has become stagnant or blocked, this crystal will help you move forward in life without getting caught up in the past.

Moonstone Anklet – Conscious Items

There are lots of different ways to use chakra stones – you can wear them as part of chakra jewelry, hold them during meditation or simply place them around your home to cleanse your energy as you go about your day.

Crown Chakra Yoga Poses

In yoga and Ayurvedic medicine, it is said that energy flows up from your Root or Base chakra through all the other chakras and then out through your Crown Chakra.

Yoga poses or asanas, can help you to alleviate stress or blockages in the body so that energy can move freely between the chakras.

If you are interested in yoga or just enjoy physical healing practices then you can find plenty of chakra yoga poses to help you focus on your Crown Chakra. Some of these yoga asanas include:

  • Camel Pose – This pose stretches the front of the physical body and opens up the chest. It’s also known to help to promote back flexibility.
  • Headstand Pose – This pose relaxes the mind and helps to improve blood circulation. It also strengthens the arms, shoulders, and core muscles.
  • Corpse Pose – This pose helps to promote complete relaxation of the body and mind. It is often used as a final resting pose after a yoga practice.

Deep Breathing Techniques

Deep breathing techniques (also known as pranayama) are often used in yoga and meditation to calm the nervous system and connect with our internal guide.

They are particularly useful for Crown Chakra healing as they help quieten the loud chatter in our minds which makes it easier to tune into our spiritual center.

Nadi Shuddhi, known as alternate nostril breathing, is a popular form of pranayama. It simply involves closing one nostril, while inhaling through the other nostril and pausing as you hold your breath. Then as you exhale you cover your other nostril and inhale through the one that was previously closed.

Repeat this cycle until you feel relaxed and your mind begins to clear.

Crown Chakra Meditation

Chakra meditation is a powerful tool for dispelling negative energy and rebalancing our Seventh Chakra. There are lots of different forms of meditation to choose from, but a simple meditation practice like visualization can be very effective.

Find a comfortable position, close your eyes and start practicing deep breathing techniques. Then as you feel yourself entering a deeper state of calm, start to visualize a purple or white light at the top of your head. As you breathe in, imagine this light growing brighter and as you exhale, watch as the cosmic energy washes over your whole body.

You could also try burning a Crown Chakra candle while you meditate to help deepen your focus and tap into the healing benefits of aromatherapy while you meditate.

Sahasrara Essential Oils

Another way to connect with the Sahasrara is through the use of essential oils. Essential oils can be used to balance and align all of the chakras, but by using the right blend of ingredients, it is possible to specifically support the Sahasrara chakra.

According to Indian cosmology, there are 102 essential oils that are associated with the Sahasrara Chakra. These include:

  • Sage: This oil is cleansing and purifying. It helps to release negativity and clear away any energy blockages.
  • Frankincense: This oil is grounding and centering and helps enhance feelings of well-being and calmness.
  • Rose: This oil is heart-opening and nurturing. It makes it easier for us to live with love and compassion.
  • Lotus: This oil is highly spiritual. It helps to open our hearts and minds to higher states of consciousness.

Using these essential oils, or any others that resonate with you, in a diffuser or as part of a massage blend can help to support the health and balance of your chakra.

Crown Chakra Journal Prompts

Journaling can be a really powerful way to focus the mind and identify areas where you are blocked or unbalanced.

I like to journal first thing in the morning before I get distracted by the day ahead but you can choose any time that works for you. Find a quiet spot and turn off your phone so you’re not disturbed.

Then choose 2 or 3 journal prompts and begin writing whatever comes to you as you explore these questions. Don’t filter or judge anything that comes into your mind.

The purpose is to let your mind run free so you can get in touch with your inner self and your beliefs around spirituality. You can then start to challenge and adapt these mental patterns with other healing practices.

Here are some Crown Chakra journal prompts to get you started:

  1. What does spirituality mean to me?
  2. What is my connection to the Universe?
  3. How can I access my higher self?
  4. What does it feel like when my Crown Chakra is open and balanced?
  5. What are some things I can do to nurture my spiritual practice?
  6. What are some signs that my Crown Chakra is out of balance?
  7. How can I heal and balance my Crown Chakra?
